A calm look at resource-library guidance versus hosted checkout and delivery — so you can choose the shape that fits.
SoftSellOS is a resource library, not a hosted storefront. You use its guidance to choose your own audience, selling channel, email list, and customer experience. Gumroad keeps customer details in its Sales dashboard and lets creators download a CSV of customers and purchases; creators can also manage whether customers receive seller emails. That gives you useful exports, but neither option should be described as absolute ownership of a customer relationship — your policies, consent, and the platform terms still matter.
SoftSellOS uses three public offers: the free Starter Kit, The Soft Girl Sell at $37, and the $57 Bundle, which includes the Starter Kit, Revenue Tracker, and Playbook as purchased components. Revenue Tracker and Business Audit are not standalone promoted offers. There is no SoftSellOS platform subscription because SoftSellOS is not hosted storefront software. Gumroad currently charges 10% plus $0.50 for sales through your profile or direct links, plus standard credit-card processing (2.9% + $0.30) and PayPal fees; Discover marketplace sales are 30% and include processing fees. Gumroad does not charge a monthly fee, and says it handles sales-tax collection and remittance as merchant of record where it has obligations.
SoftSellOS sends its files or access links by email for self-paced use. Gumroad sends the customer a receipt with a link to the product download page; a customer can also create an account and access purchases in a Gumroad Library. Gumroad is the more complete checkout-and-delivery workflow, while SoftSellOS is the resource itself rather than the storefront behind your business.
With Gumroad, the platform can help with Gumroad, account, and payment questions, while the creator is the first contact for product-specific issues; the receipt includes the creator contact information. SoftSellOS provides delivery-email support for questions about its own resources. Neither description promises hands-on business coaching or live implementation support.
On Gumroad, each seller sets their own refund policy and handles ordinary product refund requests. Gumroad also says it may issue refunds within 90 days at its discretion to prevent chargebacks, and that legal, payment-processor, and in-app purchase rules can create exceptions — for example, Brazil's 7-day withdrawal right for eligible website purchases and Apple or Google handling in-app refunds. The paid SoftSellOS resources have the existing 30-day promise: email within 30 days if a purchase did not deliver what was promised.
Gumroad is the better fit for a creator who wants hosted checkout and delivery, with optional Discover exposure and a platform that manages more of the transaction workflow. SoftSellOS is the fit for a seller who wants self-paced guidance and a small resource library without paying for a platform subscription. It does not replace Gumroad or another storefront; it helps you decide what to sell and how to begin.
